While scientists work to alter the world of skincare one bottle at a time, you most likely continue to practise unhealthy behaviours that harm your skin. And we’re not just talking about sleeping with makeup on, not cleaning your makeup brushes and pillowcases frequently enough, or popping pimples—the list is far longer.

Check Out Seven Unhealthy Skin Habits That Are Hazards To A Perfect, Glowing Complexion:

1. Sleeping Can Ruin Your Appearance

Although every princess requires beauty sleep, sleeping may prematurely age your skin. The issue with sleeping is not with the procedure itself, but with your pillowcase. Surprisingly, your pillowcase can suck moisture away from you, causing your skin to age.

It can also leave unsightly creases on your face. Dermatologists advocate investing in a silk pillow cover to solve your pillowcase problem. Silk contains amino acids comparable to those found in moisturisers, so while we sleep, our skin does not lose critical moisture. The issue was resolved.

2. Skipping Sunscreen During The Winter

It’s not because you’re not getting sunburned that you may forgo the sunscreen in the autumn and winter. Clouds may allow up to 80% of the sun’s rays to get through, and even if you’re indoors, windows and fluorescent lamps can allow UV rays to pass through, causing ageing and, perhaps, skin cancer.

If you prefer spending the winter in the mountains, you have one more reason to stock up on sunscreen, as UV radiation exposure increases by 5% for every 1,000 feet above sea level. Furthermore, snow reflects and amplifies sunlight.

3. Talking Can Be Harmful To Your Skin

If talking were an Olympic sport, we’d all be gold medalists by now, and while we like kicking back and relaxing on our phones while chatting with our pals, your skin does not. Consider where we leave our phones. We leave them on café tables, in our car’s drink holder, and on changing room seats. We leave our phones on store counters, lend them to pals, and even leave them on the counter in public restrooms while we wash our hands.

It’s hardly unexpected that phones might generate stains and imperfections when seen in this light. To tackle this issue, use antibacterial wipes and be more careful about where you leave your phone the next time you’re out and about.

4. Using The Same Washcloth Several Times

These guys are frequently badly dirty during usage, and because they have a longer dry time, they wind up lying around all day developing germs and mildew. If using a washcloth is part of your routine, make sure to wash it every day. Or, for a more sanitary approach, gently tap a paper towel on your face to absorb extra water—no rubbing, please!

5. Don’t Squeeze That Pimple

Finding a zit is a nightmare, but how you deal with it may make or break your skincare routine. If you want to burst a pimple rather than wait for it to cure or treat it with proper topical techniques, we strongly advise you to do so immediately! Squeezing pimples can force germs deeper into the skin, resulting in redness and irreversible scabs. It might worsen the acne and create a scar or blackish mark on your skin that you don’t want to have for the rest of your life. Yes, these tenacious acne spots are difficult to remove.

So, the next time you have an unsightly pimple and are tempted to pop it, remind yourself of the harm it will cause to your skin. Rather, use an anti-acne face cleanser or benzoyl peroxide to cure your acne.

6. Washing Your Hair Can Cause Damage

If you want to look nice and feel good, the very least you should do is keep yourself clean, right? Although basic cleanliness is undoubtedly an important aspect of your beauty regimen, you must pick your products with care.

Most shampoos and conditioners contain a foaming agent called sodium Laureth sulphate.

Despite its widespread usage, this chemical can harm your hair, skin, and health. According to the Hair Loss Control Clinic, sodium Laureth sulphate can even cause your hair growth cycle to slow down and may even prolong your hair loss period. To maintain your hair strong and lustrous, use products that do not contain this ingredient, such as organic shampoos and conditioners.

7. Smoking

Smoking is a key cause of accelerated ageing and, in general, a poor habit. It produces wrinkles, fine lines, dull skin, and discolouration, among other things. Who has that kind of time?!

Smoking also promotes dehydration, which leads to dryness and collagen breakdown. So, if you want to have healthy skin, this is a must-avoid bad habit damaging your skin.

In A Nutshell

Cut out as many bad skin habits as possible if you desire healthy skin every day. Anything else you do to care for your skin, including a regular skincare routine, can help to counteract any unhealthy habits you have daily if you have a few of them.

If you see a recurring trend, it’s about balance. Too much of anything, especially those that are already bad for you, may wreak havoc on vital processes like the health of your skin. So please give it your all.
