Homemade Remedies To Lighten Your Dark Lips:

1) Curd/Yogurt

Our topmost choice to remove tan on any part of the body, curd works wonders for even the most stubborn tans. The great part of curd is that it is mild on every skin type, and causes potentially no reactions. Curd is a powerhouse of antioxidants and good bacteria that not just helps in reversing sun damage but also aids in calming red inflamed lips caused by the sun.

Fun fact- women from asian countries where the sun is naturally harsh, have been using this remedy since ancient times!

How To Use It?

Take a spoonful of curd and apply it directly on your lips using your fingers. You can also add half a spoon of gram flour as it also has anti-tan properties to make it like a lip mask. Wash after it has dried off.

2) Lemon And Honey

Lemon contains citric acid. Due to its acidic properties, lemon is the go-to choice for people in removing their tan. But, because of its harsh nature, it is not advised to use it directly on the skin for fear of inflammation. Therefore, we suggest a combination of honey and lemon. Honey is a long-standing ingredient used for nourishing the skin and coupled with lemon, it provides tan-free smooth lips in no time at all.

How To Use Them?

Squeeze half a lemon and add its juice to one teaspoon of honey. Apply it on your lips with a spatula and wash it off no later than 20 minutes! Due to the presence of honey, there will be no need for a moisturiser. However, if you feel the need feel free to apply a gentle balm.

3) Coffee Powder And Coconut Oil

Anyone who knows anything about skin care, knows about the importance of exfoliation. Coffee powder is an exceptional exfoliating agent. Made from coffee beans which are packed with antioxidants, proteins and other minerals, it revitalises the lips by stimulating blood flow and removing dead skin. It is often used with coconut oil because coconut oil acts as a moisturiser and tones down the abrasiveness of coffee, while also promoting even toned lips.

How To Use Them?

Take a teaspoon of coffee and mix an adequate amount of coconut oil in it, till the mixture looks like a paste. Apply the paste on your lips and massage in circular motions, paying extra attention to troubled areas like the corner of the lips and the top lip. Wash off with water and pat dry.

4) Tumeric Powder With Rose Water

Turmeric powder is another excellent substance chock full of antioxidants. It is a popular ingredient used in many asian households for its anti-inflammatory properties for both food and skin. When it is used with pure rose water, it works wonders for the skin and lips as rose water is also anti-inflammatory and balances the PH level of the lips and surrounding skin.

How To Use Them?

A teaspoon of turmeric powder mixed with a teaspoon of rose water will give the mixture a paste-like appearance. Apply the mixture and prevent dryness from your lips. Follow-up with a good quality lip balm.

5) Beetroot

Beetroot is that one vegetable that always taints the lips of the person who is consuming it, with a pink-purplish red. It is consumed raw in salad and is cooked in dishes, especially healthy dishes which don’t require any extra food coloring. Therefore, due to its highly potent reddish tint, it is an extremely useful way to get rid of dark lips naturally.

How To Use It?

Peel the beetroot and cut it into thin slices. Rub a slice onto the lips for a few seconds till it’s devoid of its juice and keep the rest of the beetroot to store in a refrigerator. Make sure to use the leftover beetroot within 1-2 days, otherwise, it will dry up and will be of no use.

6) Alovera

A naturally occurring substance in nature that has soothing properties for the skin. Aloe Vera also provides a cooling effect to soothe inflamed skin around the lips. It is a gel-like, clear substance that also aids in promoting even-toned lips and to get rid of dark lips.
